Color The World

Ball’s company motto is “We color the World.” So, when it came to designing our train, it was clear we needed to do something that represented the vibrancy, creativity and collaboration that embody both our work in the company and the value those plants bring to gardeners’ lives. We added the blooms using a color gradient that not only reflects the diversity of plant varieties developed by Ball but also feels artistically intentional and adds a bit of trend to the piece.

Ball Horticultural Company has deep roots in West Chicago. Founded by George J. Ball in 1905 as a wholesale cut flower operation, Ball is now in its fourth generation of family ownership. Today, Ball specializes in breeding one-of-a-kind flowers, fruits and vegetables. If you have ever purchased a plant at a garden center, chances are the plant got its start right here in West Chicago.

Want an idea of some of the flowers that were bred at Ball Horticultural Company? Take a look at the Ball locomotive. It is covered with just a few of Ball’s popular blooms. With so many unique and exciting plants sold across the globe, it’s easy to understand how Ball’s company motto is “We color the world!”

Ball Horticultural Company Team

It takes a great team to keep a business on track and – at Ball Horticultural Company – there are hundreds of people doing just that. Over its long history, the company has expanded its many teams of experts to include a tight-knit group of horticulture pros, scientists, customer service specialists, IT specialists, creative marketers and many more professionals.

It’s really no wonder that when a company-wide invitation was made for employees to jump onboard participating in our train’s design – dozens of staff used their breaks, lunches and free time to trim out flower images and decoupage them onto our sculpture.

The Ball train really was a team effort!
